July 7, 2004when doing 65mph and I lift off the gas pedal rpms drops to 1,000 then bounces up and down between 2,500 and 1,000 when I accelerate it seems to kick down a gear, is this a tranny or torgue converter issue, also od light flashed but has since gone off.

July 7, 2004Not sure what the problem is, but I believe you mean 1,000 and 2,500 RPM as opposed to 10,000 and 25,000.
July 7, 2004I sure hope so .... or thats one bad truck
July 8, 2004Oops, Forgot I was talking about the truck not the jet car
July 8, 2004Sounds like normal operation and it sounds like the torque converter is engaging. One way to check if that is what it is ,is while you are applying the gas lightly tap and i mean very light the brake pedal and see if the truck feels like it kicks down into a lower gear if it is the same thing you felt like above then it is the torques converter. When you do this you should also see the rpms rise.
July 9, 2004Hi, Richard did the test, didn't really do anything if anything tach revs may have gone up a tad, but now when maintaining a constant speed I can see tach dropping every few seconds and its not a miss. Took it to a tranny shop he took it for a ride and he did the brake thing also depressing the od button he says the converter is slipping not holding the gear?
but then he says the tranny has to be rebuilt, don't know
July 9, 2004I don't pretend to understand the inner workings or a tranny, my experience has been mostly pulling them out, giving them to someone else to fix, then putting them back in. BUT- I don't understand why if the torque converter is slipping that you would need a tranny rebuild. Seems to me like you would just need a torque converter Mebbe you could try a different shop, 'cause that just doesn't sound right.
