April 10, 2005What's your application for the unit? Remember it slips (no lockup clutch) so going to a higher stall will decrease fuel economy.
Gearing, tire height, etc, etc. 2200-2400 shouldn't hurt economy as you should cruise at a higher speed than that on the freeway.
You can check ebay for retooled stockers, Daaco makes nice rebuilt ones, or ask your local trans shops who they recommend for mild apps. You're looking at spending $250-400 at the most.

May 6, 2005Just stay away from high stall numbers with cheap prices attached to them, cause their just flash stall converters and most likely junk. I had a 67 pickup with a 400 horse 390, and bought one of the cheap ones, and was terribly dissapointed with it. It's been many years ago, but I think I put a B&M converter in there and was very happy with it.
