September 20, 2005Can anyone give me some tips on painting the underside of my truck? Should I get my truck undercoated? My truck is 4 years old now, is it too late to get undercoated? I really want to protect the underside of my truck before winter. Thanks.

September 20, 2005roomonfire, I'm doing this as well. I'm painting mine with brush-on POR-15 (www.por15.com). Nothing beats them for rust protection .
September 20, 2005Will using POR-15 and POR Metal Ready void my warranty? I only ask because that Metal Ready stuff etches the metal.
September 20, 2005Heres mine
Good ole rustoleum spray paint with clear, and all the undercoating removed.
September 20, 2005roomonfire, show me a warranty that applies to rust on the frame, and I'll tell you if por-15 will void it or not... lol.
September 20, 2005What about the 5 year/unlimited miles corrosion warranty? What does that apply to exactly?
September 20, 2005That only covers rust holes from the inside out. Does not cover surface rust.
September 20, 2005I used Dupli-color spray on bedliner. It isn't this shiny anymore, but is still on there. It looks like a flat black now. I think we used 2-3 cans for the rear half of the frame. Can buy from walmart for about $7 a can.
September 20, 2005Ohhh, thanks for clearing that up for me! I've always been unsure about painting or undercoating the underside of my truck because my grandfather insists that undercoating that isn't done by Ford voids the corrosion warranty. He said he was told this by someone at a local dealership when he bought his truck. I always thought that the dealership was just trying to get him to pay for them to undercoat it or something, but I wasn't sure.
September 20, 2005Okay, now that I think I'm going to go with POR-15, what should I paint under my truck? Any tips from people that have done it?
September 21, 2005I havent done it yet, I'm still waiting for the parts to be shipped here, but I am planning on definately painting the rear axle, the frame, the trailer hitch, and anthing else currently coated in rust. I like thats its brush-on because I have custom paint and even a few specs being blown on to the paint would piss me off! You can spray on POR-15 if you choose, they sell a thinner to go with it or whatever, but I'll stick with the ol brush technique. Doesn't have to be perfect, just has to get coated .
