October 5, 2005im having a hard time deciding which vehicle would be best for me to use as a primary vehicle as opposed to my 13mpg getting lifted 4x4. i plan on keeping the bigger truck to pull my landscape trailer with and to basically use it for what you use bigger trucks for. my first choice is a '98 ranger, single, 4cyl, 5spd, xlt, 110k miles, $3000, 25mpg avg....the other is a '97 ford aspire, 4cyl, 5spd, 58k miles, 40mpg avg, $3000. i mostly drive to school and back and work and back and the store and back and all of these places are in a 10 mile radius. i do drive on the interstate once every week or 2 and like to make trips to the mountains and the beach several times a year. it's usually only me and my gf or me and a friend/2friends if we go somewhere. just having a lil trouble deciding which best meets my needs.

October 5, 2005Don't think I'd be happy in an Aspire. I'd say get the Ranger. Driven conservatively, you should be able to beat that 25 mpg estimate.
There`s nothing more American than a guy that can build an aircraft carrier in his garage over the weekend.
October 5, 2005I've driven both, not those exact years though, and the Aspires are just to freaking small. I am about 6' 250 and that little car just doesn't cut it. My grandparents had a '94 ranger 2wd 4cyl. Reg. cab, 5spd and it got great mileage and had "enough" power. It was a fun little truck and you will sit up higher than the Aspire so you can see more. The ranger will also be safer if you are ever in an accident. I still kick myself for not buying the Ranger off of them when they sold it.
Downside would be you will only get 2 in that ranger comfortably if its a reg. cab and even if its extended the baack isn't fun to sit in. The Aspire will hold 4 but everyone will be cramped
October 5, 2005go w/ the Ranger- nothing wrong w/ having truck that gets 25MPG
October 5, 2005Get the Ranger. Those Aspire are way to small. I'd hate to see one in an accident. I've ridden on go-karts with more room. With the truck you can get 2 freinds plus all your stuff for the weekend. With the Aspire you can get maybe 3 friends if ya'll really like each other and not much stuff. They don't have a lot of room for gargo.
October 5, 2005its looking like a clear choice on the ranger. i just hate how much money im gonna be spending on mods...why cant i just leave a vehicle like it is. the only mods i had planned if i got the aspire were cheap stuff like tint, chrome spray paint on the hubcaps, and some flame stickers from advanced . i already have the grille and lights picked out for the ranger. lol. ill see if i cant shave a lil more off the price of the ranger to use for mods.
