August 30, 2008I have a 2001 F-150 XLT. It''s a 2WD and I''m wondering what it would take to convert it to a 4WD. If anyone has done this *or* knows about it, the help would be appreciated....Also, say I want to lift my 2WD...good *or* bad for the truck? Thanks!

August 30, 2008it would be cheaper to find a 4x4 and either sell the two wheeler *or* trade it in on the 4x4
you can lift your two wheel drive. it''s not a bad idea. just look for a good kit to do it with.
and welcome to the site!
August 30, 2008I have seen many lifted 2wd''s and they look pretty good, heck put a locker in the rear end and you could go to places a stock 4wd would have problems with
August 30, 2008alright i don''t know much about this stuff, what is a locker and how do i go about getting one?
August 30, 2008Most axles are open, try power braking your truck and you''ll notice probably just the right rear tire is moving. A locker well lock the axle on both ends sending power to both wheels equally. Go to just about any 4x4 store online and you''ll probably find them, aka 4wheelparts.com. I would love to have one put into my truck, many times could have gotten myself out of sticky situations easier.
August 31, 2008alright but would a locker let me offroad at all? mind you i''m still in a 2WD truck...
August 31, 2008A locking differential would definately help offroading, but if you NEED 4x4 you could trade in your truck on a 4x4 and put the locker in that instead.
