December 3, 2008got a question if someone can help. just got a new dvd/cd deak for my truck and am installing it. it has a green wire that is to go to the parking brake lead. what is that for and if it is the power lead for the dvd why does it go there, can it just go to a switched lead instead.

December 3, 2008not sure but it sounds like that wire is to light it up at night when you turn the lights on to see the display at night.
December 3, 2008I have not hooked up that wire yet when I go to the AV source it reads parking brake I so I think it needs to be wired to activate the dvd player. I wonder if another 12v wire will work.
December 4, 2008that wire controlls the video feed. ur suposed to have the parking brake set before ur able to watch videos, hence thats y its labled parking brake. but all it is is a ground wire. find u another ground wire and run it to a switch. then when u want to watch a movie *or* videos all u have to do is flip on the switch which tells the head unit that the parkin brake is set. thats what i have done with mine.
December 4, 2008its supoosed to be a saftey feature to keep u from watchin movies while drivin down the road.
December 4, 2008thanks kracker when you say a switch is that a switch with power then the green for video and a ground. so a three wire switch
December 4, 2008no not a power wire. all that parking brake wire is is a ground wire. so all u need is another ground wire to compleate the circit. when u have the green wire hooked to another ground it tells the head unit that the "parking brake" is set and will allow video to play.
December 4, 2008It depends on what make and model of indash you have too....not all of them work like that
December 4, 2008the make of unit is a JVC KD-AVX44 DVD/CD RECEIVER.
December 4, 2008on JVC units mostly, if not, all are just ground. No need to run a switch. Just tie it in with the ground when you crimp the radio harness to the car harness. That simple!
