Airforce im assuming. Got a bro in law that does maintenance on fast movers, and a wife that used to do intel for the airforce a few years back.
Im Army by the way. His advise was and I quote, "These engines dont like to sit for a long time. You have to run them. If you are going to be gone for a while this is what you need to do when you get back. Change engine oil and filter, change fuel filters. Then drive the truck in 3 not D until it reaches the speed limit (65) for 50 to 100 miles, tis will clean out pr loosen all the gunk build up, and then change your tranny filter. Wether you are using sinthetic *or* regular oil dont skimp on changing it every 5k miles max. The only advantage to running synthetic is better gas milage. Also do your tranny flush every 30k and tranny filter change every 15k." sounds very reasonable and I do all those things already except for the tranny stuff.
Like I said in previous post. The diesel mech was very sincere and honest as far as I could tell.
Any other diesel experts are more than welcome to chime in.
Hope this helps
