Hey, I was wondering If it would be possible to swap out the stock intake manifold, upper intake, and throttle body on my 04 f150(heritage)`s 4.6L(2V) motor to a performance manifold, larger upper intake, and a larger 75mm throttle boddy from a 02 Mustang`s 4.6L motor??? If I can is there anything elce i will need to make the swap?Forums : Engines-Gasoline 8-cyl : F150 4.6L mustang intake manifold swap? (1528 Views)

Nope, mustang manifold wont work. tb/plenum wont match up the same"I wake up in the morning and I piss excellence."

If you swapped the whole intake it should, shouldn`t it? Everything would be in different locations, but as long as everything is from a Mustang, I wouldn`t see why it wouldn`t work.March 3, 2010
i still dont think youll get everything to match up just right as far as the fit of everything.now for the technical "NO, it won`t work" answer - the mustang manifolds have much shorter runners. trucks have longer runners because of the torque needed to move a truck. mustangs top out around 8k I believe, and our trucks top out at 6k. the parts matched up to them are specifically engineered for their applications. mustangs dont have much low end, and they hang in the 2200-3800 range all day, and get up to 5/6k when you get on em. our trucks hang out around 1400-2100, and hit 3500-4k when you get on em, and redline at 5500. the runners of the manifolds make all the difference in how the engines run in a specific power band.

Okay, but if i`m installing a bigger throttle body and better flowing uper intake elbow(aftermarket), along with an elbow spacer and a throttlebody spacer, and i will probabley throw a jet mass air flow meter in the mix with a cold air intake, should this not work better than the trucks stock setup? I mean even if i loose a "little" torque in the lower rpms will it not be worth the increase in the upper? I mean with all these improvements I really shouldn`t loose to much torque down low should I?March 8, 2010
Jet MAF = No powerthrottle-body spacer = NO power
elbow spacer = NO power
bigger throttle-body = very little power. Maybe 5 if your lucky!
The intake will most likely fit if it`s for a 2V 4.6 but I don`t see the benefit. Your not doing anything but wasting money.

some people just dont get it.
jet maf = running lean. spacer = whistling. mustang manifold = DOES NOT FREAKING WORK.
to give you the ill-informed answer you want, YES, it will FIT. will it work? NO. your truck WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY. YOU WILL NOT EXPERIENCE ANY GAINS. and torque should be a priority if you`re tryin to spin the tires you have in your pic (35s?)
can someone please talk some sense into this guy and save him from himself?

Settle the F@&K down bud! I`m not an idiot, i`m actually a mechanic myself and am just wanting to explore some possible engine improvements so settle!...And as for improvements the main difference between the trucks 4.6 and the cars is "exactly" the whole intake and cam timeing, so since the difference between the 2 motors is about 30hp and 20 ft-lbs, well then i`m sure this could work.Have u tried these mods or know of anyone who has?,i didn`t think so so u really don`t know if it would work or not. I was just asking for some input not to be mouthed...May 29, 2010
Did the whole thing with a trick flow set-up. With my built motor the reworked stock manifold waS DEAD at 4800 rpm. Had to have different throttle body, air intake set-up, rewire maf, iat to other side, take wiper resovoir out etc..............worked great for me. Of course different situation built to basically stock motor. Now remember this was with PI heads I put on my 4.6. I never did find a 4.6 with actual Pi heads on it. Don`t be suprised if the manifold you get is Pi and your heads arent. The only intkae manifold, motor I never checked to see if it was a PI match was the heritage.............you might have PI heads.

when i blow up my old motor i bought an engine complete from pan to intake out of a 02 mustang gt..thanks to a really good friend on here that has done alot of homework i was able to make the pi heads work with my truck manifold. the mustang manifold would work but there is a lot of work involved to get it to work and you will lose some bottom end, and with big tires you don`t want lose that...thats why i stayed with the truck manifold![]() |
