May 11, 2010My new Excursion will need new tires before fall hits and I am looking at either the Toyo Open Country or the Nitto Terrra Grappler. The Geolander ATS is a close third. Keep in mind while it is a 4x4, 99% will be pavement pounding. I am not putting a HT tread on a 4x4, thats why I like the look and tread of these 3 tires. Let me know your preference and why (quiet/loud, good in snow etc., and mileage you have gotten) Thanks guys, Jon.

May 11, 2010I had the Toyo Open-Country A/T on my Explorer and my friend has them on his Super Duty. They are very quiet and they go for quite a while. After 25000 on mine I had at least another 25000 to go on them. They are very quiet and are great in the snow. I can`t comment on the other two tires you`re looking at as I haven`t tried them. When the time comes though I`ll be getting a set of Toyos for my Super Duty.
May 11, 2010I have Toyo OC A/T (265/75R16 "E") on my truck. They work really well. I mostly daily drive, but also pull a 12K# 5th wheel. I have about 2600 miles to go to my 35,000 mile rotation. I`m thinkin` easily I`ll get 45,000 out of them, maybe a tad more. As 03ExplorerSPT said, my OCs are quiet, they did well in the snow, both in 2WD and 4WD.
I`ve heard that Nitto is made by Toyo. I think that`s why the Nitto TG and Toyo OC tread patterns are pretty close.
My daughter has the Yoko ATS on her Jeep Grand Cherokee. They seem to be holding up pretty well. She`s driven in the snow with them - I think they did okay there too.

May 11, 2010Yeah the tread is very similar on the Toyo and Nitto. From what I have seen, the Toyos are a little less expensive as well.
Keep those reviews coming!!!

TOYO .. "A" compound .. great in the snow ..
May 12, 2010Nitto... Awesome tires, work great in any condition I put my old set through even sled pulling. Considering going back to them when my Kuhmos run down. Oh you know Nitto is made by Toyo right?
May 12, 2010Yep I know Toyo makes Nitto. Sounds like either is a good choice. Now to find some good places to buy them. Thanks guys!
May 14, 2010I run Toyo Open Country M/T`s on my rig. The A/T`s dont sell as much due to price. Toyo actually owns Nitto and Nittos are the cheaper of the two. Terra Grapplers, we sell alot of and people seem to really like them. For the price, and an all terrain, Nitto Terra Grapplers are the way to go.
May 15, 2010Damn why do i have to be the one guy but, i would go with the BFG`s. I have run nittos and they were a cool A/T Tire on the road and hard packed dirt. However, i hated them in the rain, snow and sand. I know the BFG`s are more money but i got more miles out of them and they were an all around better tire.
