September 27, 2010Hey guys, I have a 2004 ford f250 and the other day I was standing next to it and out of no where smoke was coming from the dash on the drivers side. Now my radio and power windows have power all the time even when the key isn`t in. Has anyone heard of this problem, or know where I should look. I found a spot on the dash where it looks like it arced out, but I can`t find any exposed wires. Thanks for the help.

September 27, 2010Jim, it sounds like the power saver relay or the Accessory Delay relay have failed and have now fused the contacts of the relay in the shut position. Granted, it may have also been the switchable wire that activates the Accessory Delay relay has shorted with the battery wire, leading to the same issue. Either way, look on the back side of the fuse box and see what you see there. Also, if you can see where the wires have been burned, make sure to atleast tape over them for the moment with electrical tape to ensure you don`t cause another arc.
It may be possible that due to the arc that you see, you damaged the GEM module, leading to the GEM causing funky things to happen (essentially, from what I can guess, the arc caused the switch inside the GEM to fail, applying power to the Accessory relay all the time).
If you feel you can use a multimeter and want to figure this out, let me know. I will give you step by step instructions on what to check to figure this problem out.
