December 31, 2010some spin off like you tried, some there is a cap on the top you remove and there is a nut you remove to get it off and I believe some use a set screw.
December 31, 2010Mine came off by using a cresent wrench wide enough to go around the shifter shaft then using a small rubber mallet whacked upwards until it popped off. Some screw on, some are bolted mine was pressed on.

March 2, 2011if its pressed on use a heat gun on low to warm the knob up and it will slide right off
March 3, 2011If yours is the Mazda transmission, it is most definitely pressed on. It will pull straight off, but as recommended in the previous post use something to warm it up so it will expand a little bit.....
