January 15, 2011Is there anyone in the Baton Rouge to New Orleans area that has the knowledge, experience, and capability to help me change the head gasket on my truck. Any and all help will be much appreciated.

January 16, 2011dam grey!
I just seen this post.
you changing head gasket on your 4.9L straight six?
January 17, 2011Yes. It`s the 4.9L I6. It`s been steaming. I`m having to add coolant/water to the radiator periodically. I don`t have the money to bring it somewhere to get it done. I`m really hoping there is someone that can help me.
January 17, 2011changing head gaskets is not as hard as you might think. if you are mechanically inclined you can do it.
as long as you properly torque the head with the new gasket you will be fine. I never had any experience and tore into an engine to do one myself and never had a problem. done a couple more since without any issue`s.
just don`t go to autozone or similar place for a gasket get one from Napa.
January 17, 2011Sorry bud, wish I lived closer, I would help in a heartbeat. It`s pretty easy, but it`s nice to have an extra set of hands placing that huge head back on.
January 18, 2011Thanks guys. I didn`t think it would be difficult to do, but I`d rather have someone with me who really knows what they are doing. I would really like not to screw it up.
If only I had people from this state replying.
Why not Autozone or similar? Just wondering.
January 19, 2011I have had some quality problems with parts from places like autozone and the last thing I want to do is save a couple bucks just to end up doing it all over again over poor quality parts. just my personal opinion though.
bulbs, oil & filters are ok from those places
