March 24, 2011I have 2 12" kickers with a1000 watt amp. When the bass hits my lights dim and if I have the volume up high enough they cut out when I`m idling. Is a capacitor all I need or is there something else?

March 24, 2011If the lights are starting to cut off, then check either your battery or alternator. One of those could be going bad. A cap would help with the dimming lights once you know you don`t have a charging problem.
March 24, 2011I have the same problem when my electric fan cuts on. Let alone when the subs hit when the fan is on!
I`m already running a 130amp alternator. Probably have to upgrade the battery though. Bought both at the same time.
March 24, 2011get your alternator bumped up to atleast 200 amps
March 24, 2011are you running your amp through a separate fuse that is wired directly to the battery??
if your pulling that much power you should be.
March 24, 2011Well this is in my car. Alternator is new so is the battery. I do have some other electronics that draw power
March 24, 2011Ya there`s an inline fuse
March 25, 2011did you upgrade the alternator any as in amperage stock one is not enough alone ,since you are maxing it out. try going to a larger gauge wire on it to the battery
March 26, 2011Nope I haven`t upgraded anything
June 27, 2011Do the big 3 first. Add a wire from the battery to the alt the same size you have on your amp. Run another wire the same size from the block to the frame near the battery. Run a extra ground from the battery to the point you attached the ground from the motor. Put a fuse on the hit wire to the alt. Don`t remove any factory wires just add these. My Ranger lights quit flashing after I did this to it
