Tough to tell Slick.
I get a little heated when some of the members on this site attack others for expressing frustration with the way the site functions (or doesn`t). I have a new computer and stable 25/15 internet speed, and the site doesn`t reliably load every time. That members uninvolved with the daily maintenance and operation of the site are telling other members that they just need to get over it is just grandstanding and wrong. Like longevity on the site somehow means relatively new members need to kowtow to their internet-tough guy antics. One of the asshats in question attacked a member for asking when the site would be more reliable by telling him he needed to check the "announcement" thread for updates...well, there for a good while, I couldn`t navigate the site reliably at all, so Mr. Asshat needs to back off the internet tough-guy role and shut his trap while people express their frustrations with the site.
The site is the sole means of communication for many members, particularly in this chapter. When the site went down the first time, we lost a good number of active posters to competitive sites, particularly our diesel-owning friends. I can name at least 4 very active posters off hand that left after the first issue, and at least one of those guys now functions as a moderator of sorts on a competitive site. They won`t come back and reinvest interest in the site, particularly when it`s become so cumbersome.
Even with Firefox or Chrome add-ons that block advertisements, I can still see where they are because of the grossly-disproportionate space given to advertisements. I get that it`s a freebie site, but I`m on a number of other Ford-centric sites that don`t promote the sponsors so aggressively. When the site had it`s more recent issues, the only thing that would load 9/10 times where the ads that occupy the sides of the page. The issues with galleries and the simple issues that plagued the site after the first crash (remember *`s preceding and ending words?) drove even more active posters to sites with less issues and a more engaging format. With this latest issue, our Chapter President has gone MIA and we`ve lost at least 3 more chapter-regulars. According to the announcements thread, the site owners are still trying to procure funds to bring another server online to stabilize the site. That`s nice, and I understand the issue, but we`re going on 40-50 days since the issues cropped up and while I understand the owners are doing all they can to improve the site, the sorry fact is that it`s still lagging and doesn`t reliably work.
I spent 99.9% of my time on another site, which is dedicated to trucks like mine. In nearly 10 years of membership on that site, I`ve yet to experience a technical issue, and there are threads over 300 pages long. Their galleries work, are much less cumbersome to update, and the threads aren`t littered with Chevy/Dodge advertising, but rather with advertisements geared towards the enthusiasts the site represents. While I`m by no means advocating the remaining active members of the chapter vacate FTW, I don`t think it would be a bad thing for us to register elsewhere so we can coordinate GTG`s and chit-chat or BS without worrying about site stability.
